Asset tracking: outdoors and indoors

Track your equipment, cargo and tools on outdoor maps and indoor floor plans. See how they move and what condition they’re in.

Use tags connected through a gateway instead of a GPS tracker on every asset.

01 Features

Detailed control over every asset

One workspace for sensors, assets, and gateways.

Live status

Position on the map, floor or zone inside a building. View status, last activity and any telemetry reported by the gateway.

Moving Stationary Online Recently online Offline No data
temperature4.2 °Chumidity61 %battery level87 %doorclosed

Zone control

Geofences outdoors, zones on indoor floors. Entering sets a system label, leaving removes it; every crossing creates an event for triggers and reports.

History and analytics

  • Charts for any parameter over time
  • Trips with distance, speed, parking and track playback
  • Floor and zone visits
  • Event timeline for the last 30 days
temperature · 7 daysthreshold 8 °C
trip · 42.3 km · 2 parking eventsplayback ▸

Flexible grouping

Group assets by location, state or workflow using system and custom labels. History shows when labels were assigned or removed and how long they were active.

Triggers and notifications

Get notified when equipment leaves a zone, battery level drops, or a reading crosses a threshold.

  • Condition: presets for zones, floors, buildings, speed, battery level and missing messages, or a custom rule based on any telemetry value
  • Applies to: all units, including new ones, or units selected by zone, floor, or label
  • Notify: in-app notifications; each user subscribes to the triggers they need, when a condition starts, ends or both

Reports

Reports show how long assets stay in each area, when they move, and when no data is received. Each report includes duration, a timeline, and export to CSV.

Geofence visitsVisits to outdoor areas and time spent there
Zone visitsVisits to indoor zones and time spent there
Floor presenceTime spent on each floor
MotionMovement periods and their duration
Connection lossPeriods without incoming data

Bulk import and updates

  • Creation and update of sensors, assets, anchors, and gateways from a single CSV file
  • Preview of all changes and errors before import
  • Export of filtered tables and report results to CSV

Table and board view

Sensors, assets, and gateways in a table or on a board, with the map visible at the same time.

Table: configurable columns and sorting for comparing location, battery level, and activity.

Board: grouping of assets by status, building, category, or tag, plus saving of the selected layout and card size.

Asset location by building and floor

3D

Building overview

Assets floor by floor, with floor plans, zones, and anchors. Tracking of a selected asset or replay of its recorded movement.

2D

Floor plan on the site map

The plan of the selected floor aligned with the site map, for viewing indoor asset locations together with the building and the surrounding area.

RSSI

Position accuracy

Estimation of the position on the floor plan from the signal strength of nearby anchors. Accuracy depends on anchor placement and on the conditions at the site, such as walls, metal structures, and radio interference.

03 Hardware

Hardware for mobile and indoor tracking

Hardware selection guide →

An asset is the item you track. Its sensor can be replaced, and the asset with all its history is kept.

On the asset

Wireless sensors

Sensors are BLE beacons or Wirepas Mesh tags attached to tools, pallets, or equipment. Some models also report temperature, humidity, and other readings.

Mobile gateways

GPS trackers with BLE scanning

A supported tracker collects data from nearby BLE sensors and sends it to the system together with its GPS position. Tracker readings, such as fuel level, door state, and voltage, are available as well.

Indoor infrastructure

Mesh gateways and anchors

Fixed anchors give reference points on floor plans and relay data through the mesh network. A gateway passes the data to the platform.

04 Technology

BLE, mesh and platform

BLE tags and beacons

BLE tags broadcast an identifier and, depending on the model, readings such as temperature or humidity. The receiving hardware must support the broadcast format of the tags and the data the project needs.

Wirepas Mesh for indoor positioning

A self-organizing mesh network of fixed anchors for indoor positioning.

  • Anchors relay data for one another, so coverage reaches further than a direct connection to a gateway
  • Battery-powered anchors need less cabling and work for years, depending on the hardware and on how often they send data
  • Adding gateways gives room for more sensors and more frequent updates

Platform

The GPS-Trace platform uses flespi as its telematics backend: device protocols, telemetry storage and the event engine. Positioning, buildings, and floors are handled by GPS-Trace.
